THE LATE REV. ALEX. DOULL
AN APPRECIATION. In the passing away of the Rev. Alex Doull the Presbyterian Church, the cause of education, and the Prohi. bition movement have lost a noble Roman. No one intimately acquainted with him but must have been im. pressed with the perfectness of his varied qualifications. As an organiser, moderator, chairman, member of As. scmbly, Presbytery, committee or any office he allowed himself to take in hand, without doubt he was a whole man to one thing at a time. It was only necessary to know that the thing was in Mr Doull’s hands to be assured that it was as good as done, and done on time! Punctuality was one of his leading virtues; he wasted nobody's time in any meetings of which he was the head in regard to being in his place to the minute; also when there always With his book or order and programing carefully mapped out. His thorough acquaintance with the ‘‘Blue Book” was masterly, and his acquaintance in regard to the history of New Zea. land Presbyterians made him a valuable accessory at the General Assembly and Presbytery meetings. Maori mission work was another feature in which he was well versed. As a missioner Mr Doull ranked high, and notwithstanding the extent of the parish, the sick wei'e well attended to. He was faithful to his own house, and to his God he was true, his life a living epistle of the Gospel he so nobly preached. Once persuaded that it was his duty to carry out any measure or charge, no opposition would ever mov G him from his purpose. And he did as much good work in his 51 years as many do who live to a much greater age..—Contributed.
