HELP FOR FLOOD VICTIMS.
DEPPUTATION TO LAND BOARD, [Per Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night, A deputation from the District Council of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, waited on the Canterbury Land Board suggesting that the Government be urged to give assistance with regard to losses sustained by soldier settlers in connection with the recent floods. Mr H. J. Knight said the floods would have a serious effect on the returned soldiers of North Canterbury, particularly those who were on the land. He suggested that relief should bo given in the direction of allowing six months’ grace for the payment of rent, and in respect of interest on Land Board loans given to settlers on Crown lands.. The Commissioner, Mr Bullard, said the deputation could rest assured that the Board would give relief wherever it could. He added that no doubt trouble would be experienced in finding feed for stock during the winter, and in some cases it would be a hard winter for the soldier settlers. The deputation could take it that the Board would give its sympathy.
