SUICIDE EPIDEMIC.
IN CITIES OF RUSSIA. IDEALISTS SEE COUNTRY’S DEGRADATION. . UNABLE TO REMAIN. [By Electric Cable —Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Sunday, 7 p.m.) STOCKHOLM, May 12. There has lately be*|n a suicide epidemic in Russia. In Moscow alone in one day, April 30, there were sixtyfour suicides registered, in Petrograd twenty-eight, in Odessa nineteen, and in Kharkov nine. Most of the cases were due to starvation.. The number of suicides has increased during the new economic policy, as the starving see luxurious Commissaries and the newly rich. Some idealists in the Communist party have also committed suicide, being unable to stand the moral and spiritual degradation of their party.
