Mr Tom Groves, he Labour 31. P., and his wife will be candidates for the Dunmovv flitch prize for the happiest marired couple. This is the first time for centuries in the history of the flitch that a Commoner has competed. (The “Dunmow flitch" is given annually to a married couple who can satisfy a jury of men and women that they have not quarrelled nor repented of their bargain. Dunmow is a village in Essex, where the prize (of a side of bacon) was established in the fourteenth century).
