POLITICAL RIGHTS.
FOE PUBLIC SERVANTS. ACT TO REPEAL DISQUALIFICATION. INTRODUCED BY PREMIER. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. In accordance with his promise to make another attempt to secure the passage of a measure giving public servants improved political rights, the Prime Minister introduced an amendment of the Legislature Act to-day". It proposes to repeal tho disqualification of any State employee from being a candidate for Parliament if he has been granted leave of absence for the purpose of contesting the election. Leave will only be granted by tho Public Service Commissioner in the case of employees under that officer’s control or by tho Minister of any Department if not under the Commissioner’s control. The final clause reads: “If any person to whom this section relates is declared to be elected a member of Parliament, his employment as a civil servant shall be deemed to have been determined so soon as his right to receive payment as a member of Parliament accrues..
