TRAIN TRAVELLING.
A PALMERSTON NORTH SUGGESTION. At yesterday’s meeting of the Council of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce a letter was read from the General Manager, New Zealand Railways, with reference to representations made dy the Palmerston North Chamder respecting delays experienced by passengers in gaining admission to Thorndon (Wellington) station platform. The writer stated that the suggestion regarding special cars was impracticable, as such a course would necessitate h number of extra carriages being placed on the train, which would be only partly occupied. The arrangement admitting reserved seat holders fifteen minutes prior to the departure time of the train was now well known and passengers who did not hold reserve tickets had no need to arrive at the station more than fifteen or twenty minutes before the train was due to depart A number of those present stated that the regulations regarding admission to the platform fifteen minutes before the departure of the train was apparently not alw'ays observed. After discussion, it was resolved to urge on the Department that distinctive cards be placed on reserved seats denoting the sections ovr which the places were reserved, and that passengers should be allowed to occupy seats reserved from Palmerston North northwards.
