KAIRANGA COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING ON SATURDAY. The Kairanga County Council met in Palmerston North on Saturday. There were present: Councillors J. Linklater (Chairman), D. Collis, P. J. Small, D. Prouse, C. Anderson, F. W. Hubbard, Jos. Batchelar, and W. R. Hopcroft. 'CORRESPONDENCE. The Prime Minister replied to the Council's objection to the increased audit foes, levied on local bodies, to the effect that the matter would receive very careful consideration. —Received. Government advice was recei 'ed that debentures were being forwarded in respect to the Kahuterawa loan of £6so.—Received. Mr. L. Birks, Chief Government Electrical Engineer, wrote stating, in connection with the Mangahao Hydro Electric scheme, that it was proposed at an early date to distribute a part of the poles along the roads which would be occupied by the main transmission lines. The plans showing the roads were available for inspection, and if the Council had any special point in connection with the lavir
of the poles on the roadside pending erection, it should be represented to Mr. Dinnie, of Shannon. —Received. A circular was read from the Department of Industries and Commerce, in which it was said that a statement was recently submitted to it, urging that the commercial and industrial interests of the Dominion should receive special consideration to enable manufacturers, capable of providing New Zealand's requirements, to assist in relieving the distress in consequence of unemployment through the industrial depression that was at present being experienced. It had been alleged that local bodies, in making arrangements for supplies, especially of iron works, had not given due consideration to New Zealand's products. The' Department would be glad if the Council would furnish a statement showing to what extent iron work supplies were purchased from local manufacturers, and from outside the Dominion. It was pointed out that a reply had been sent to the effect that the Council always purchased its iron work material in New Zealand, if it was possible to obtain it without going abroad. TENDERS. Tenders were considered In connection with the cutting on the Aokanterc road, apart from the deviation work being carried out. Mr. Ancell's tender of £l3B 5s lOd was accepted. The highest tender was ££325, and there were seven tenderers, LAND TRANSFERS. Transfers were granted in the following cases: Taonui riding: From N. M. Hayward to F. J. Carter, 200 acres; R. P. Jensen to R. H. Jensen, 60 acres. Mangaone riding: Kairanga City Council to T. J. McDonald, 17a 3r lOp. GENERAL. It was decided to proceed with the construction of a flood gate in the Eullocky Creek drain at its junction with Stoney Creek. The Linton Tennis Club's request for the lease of half an acre of the land acquired by the Council from Mr. G. Craw, was left in the hands of the members for the Fitzherbert riding to deal with.
