Dr. Ernest Livesey of Feilcing, is touring the Nelson district. Mr. T. M. Wilford, M. P., leader of the Opposition, is at present in Dunedin. Mr. James Georgetti has been appointed Land Purchase Officer for the Wanganui District. Mr. Daniel Wood, a resident of Napier of sixty years standing, died on Thursday at the age of eighty years. Rev. T. X. Griffin, of Christchurch, has been the quest during the past few days of Mr. and Mrs. Boyden of Pahiatua. Mr. E. Griffiths, the. well-known Jersey breeder of New Plymouth, was a visitor to Palmerston North last week. Mr. J. W. McCulloch, manager of the Central Development Firm at Weraroa, was a visitor to Palmerston North yesterday. The death occured at his brother's residence Blackwater, on Sunday, of Mr. lexander Doig, a very old resident of the Grey Valley. A London cable received last night i stated that Canon Perciva' Stacey i Waddy had been appointed Anglican Archdeacon of Palestine. Brigadier General H. F. Hart of Masterton, has stated that he does not propose becoming a candidate for Parliament at the next general election. Mr. Douglas, Mayor of Dunedin, intends contesting the Dunedin West seat at the general election against the Hon. W. Downie Stewart, in the interests of the United Party. Mr. J. Robertson, who some years ago represented the Otaki seat in the House of Representatives, has taken up his duties of manager of the Grand Theatre in Christchurch. Misses McLagan and Greig. who have i just retired from the positions of j matron and deputy-matron of the | Palmerston North Hospital, will sail; for England bv the Coriuthic on April 22nd. Mr. W. R. Davidson, assistant railway engineer. Auckland, has been appointed district engineer for the Ohakune section. He left for Ohakune on Tuesday to take, up his new duties. Mr. F. G. Barnby, first assistant; master at th& Dannevirke North School, has received notice of his appointment as headmaster of the Frasertown school, about three miles from Wairoa. Mr| Ellis, of Whitehead and Ellis, Palmerston North, has beei elected Vice-President of the. N. '/.. Master Bakers' Association. This is the first time such an honour has J alien to a country district. Captain O. M'Guigan, wiio for a number of years was officer in charge of ordnance for the Otago district, and who was recently transferred to BurnJiam is retiring from the service of the Defence Department. The death is anounced 'rom Wellington of Mr. Charles S*ubbs, formerley secretary and accountant of the "Evening Post." For some years he was accountant of the Oroua Downs Estate, in the Manawatu. Says the Auckland Star of an exFeildingite: Rev. R. Sinclair Watson, M.A.. M.C., of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Devonport, who is joining the ranks of the Benedicts early this month, is soon taking a few weeks holiday from his active ministerial duties. News was received on Thursday, of the death of the Rev. Nichol at Auckland. Deceased was one of the! pioneer Presbyterian ministers in j Hawke's Bay. He commenced his ministry in Wairoa in June, IS7S, and i from there he went to Havelock North! in 1881, and after being stationed' there for six years he went to Hampden in the South Island. At Collinson and Cunninghame's tea rooms each afternoon "The Unknown" is singing charmingly, being! the possessor of a pure lyric tenor voice highly trained. Monday he Will sing "Parted" (Tosti), "A String of Pearls" (Philipps), "Down the Vale" (Moir), and "Take a Pair of Sparkling Eyes" (Sullivan).* - •• ! ~*~* I
