Alain Trunk Timber Protection c Guild, and was attended by over fifty e executive representatives of mills bei’ tween tiic Thames, Rotorua, and Huntcrvillc. Matters of grave import i to the industry and the community £ were considered. The main difficulty i facing the industry is the dearth of - orders, and the slackness of trade. . After discussion, a motion was s adopted, reducing the hours of work 1 by closing down on Saturdays. If the - slump continues, a further reduction sof working may be necessary. 2 This measure is being adopted as less likely to cause hardship than the closing down of the mills. Should any appreciable reduction in production costs be attained by the contemplated reduction in wages, the benefit will be given immediately to the consumer by reduced prices.
