THE LICENSING QUESTION.

AND PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Last Night. A good part of the evening session of the Presbyterian General Assembly was devoted to a discussion of the Temperance Committee’s report. The Assembly unanimously endorsed the committee’s proposals to petition Parliament to have the State control issue eliminated from the ballot papers, and to urge upon Parliament the necessity of a thorough revision of tho electoral roll, and the desirability of adopting what is known as the area of precinct voting system. The committee was authorised to issue a prohibition manifesto, and a pastoral letter by the Moderator to all Presbyterian Churches. The opinion was strongly expressed that the* rolls were in urgent need of revision, and that a demand Le made for entirely new rolls. The Rev. w. G. Comrie, of Wellington, said the prohibition party could have the elimination of the State control issue from the ballot paper at a price, but the price the other side had asked in the proposal to Mr Massey was that a time 'limit of five years be granted. The Prohibition Party would not have the elimination of State control at that price, or anything like it.
