Herr Hugo Strrtnes is making a big effort to secure a mastery of German shipping. Since he failed to secure election to the board of directors of the Hamburg-Amerika Line, he nas been buying big blocks of shares in both companies with the result that Herr Sthines is now domant in the North German-Lloyd Company, the shares of which have risen from 238 •to 405 marks in a month, and the Hamburg-Amerika's have risen from 255 to 370. Herr Stinnes is also buying ships freely at home and abroad. Ho has added 44,600 tons to his own fleet since February. By the end of the year Germany will have afloat 20 per cent, of her pre-war tonnage. The building capacity oi the German yards is now 80 per cent. of the pre-war production.
