■ » ■ PAHIATUA EDITOR IN, TROUBLE, The lata managing editor of th* "Pahiatua Herald," Colin Arthur Mae* Donald, whose arrest a short time agfr .created a considerable sensation in Pahiatua, appeared at the Pahiatnaj Police Court, before' Messrs Westlakf and Barrell, J's.P., yesterday, to answer a long list of charges preferred jagainst him. The following were thf charges made:— (1) That on divors dates February 7, 1921, and March 23, 1921* at Pahiatua, he did steal £lB5 16/, thjt property of the Pahiatua Herald Convi pany, Ltd. (2) That between March 6, 1919, and July 6, 1919, he did receiv« from the Wairarapa Farmers' Coi operative Association, Ltd., the sum bt £64 18/6, on terms requiring him itb account for the same to the Herald Company, and did convert same to his own use. (3) That between December 7, 1919, and March 31, 1920, ha did re* ceive from the W.F.C.A., the sum o| £72 3/10, and did fraudulently omit tjO account for £l4 13/10. (4) That m tween July 30, 1920, and October 21% 1920, he did received from thfl W.F.C.A., £sl 13/1, and did fraudulently omit to account for same to th'f Herald Company. (5) That on bi about June 2, 1920, he did receivi £l7O from Samuel Sargent on terms re* quiring him to account for same to th« Herald Company, and did fraudulently omit to do so (6) That on or abbot November 17, 1920, he did receive £2(l from D. W. Wilton, on terms requitinj him to account for same to the ttoTalt Company, and did fraudulently cmii to do so. Detective-Sergeant Quirke appeared for the pol-ce, and Mr Harold Smitl for the accused. The following witnesses were callet for the prosecution:—Edward L. Daar? ley, managing-director of the Pahiat* Herald Company, Lt.; George G. Tayj lor, accountant and auditor; Arthur A Vaughan, accountant; Samuel Sargent farmer; Duncan Wilton, salesman; anii Thomas Quirke, detective-sergeant, s§ Accused pleaded guilty to the wholj of the charges, which involved a tcta.l sum of £507 2/5. He was ctmmitiel
for sentence to the Supreme Court Palmerston North on May .13, 1921. Bail was allowed accused in £2OO ai two sureties of €l5O each. The bl was forthcoming.
