A WHEAT TRANSACTION.

FINE OP £1470*

(Per Press Association.) I . TIMARU, May 4

James Median and Son, Ltd., James Meehan (director) and Victor Meehan (a director's son) were proceeded against by the Crown for selling wheat in excess of the price fixed by the Government. The case against James Meehan was withdrawn, as he was ignorant of the transaction. There was a total of 21 charges against each of the other defendants. Counsel for the defence admitted the offences, but contended that the transaction was not done for profit, but to keep faith with clients. He appealed for a light penalty. Mr Justice Herdman said that fraud was disclosed and fined Victor Meehan £SO on each of 21 charges, and the company was fined £2O on each of 21 charges, a total of £1470.
