PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY.

A 3IOMENTOUS SESSION.

x [By Electric Cable —Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Wednesday, 11.50 p.m.) LONDON, May 3.

The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church has opened. It is momentous for two reasons: Firstly, on account of proposals to admit women to eldership, and to authorise women of gifts and consecration to give addresses in the churches; and secondly, because the Archbishop of York addressed the Assembly and submitted the Bishops' Lambeth appeal in favour of re-union. The, Archbishop repudiated the idea of absorbing the free churches, and said the Bishops thought the free churches could accept the Nicene creed and the Communion , sacrament, leaving the Communion 'of the ministry as the most difficult field to b e explored.
