UNINVITED GUESTS.

About half past eight on Monday night an uninvited female “guest" was discovered in the sitting-room of Mr A. J. Wycherley’s residence, 97 Upland Road, Kclburn. At the time, Mr and Mrs Wycherley were absent from the premises, but Mr Wycherley’s little son and his sister-in-law went to make an investigation, and was startled by being confronted by a woman, who was wearing a pair of man’s boots, unlaced, and carrying a stick weighted with a piece of lead at the end. The window of the room was open, and some of the furniture was found to be displaced, including a pot of ferns which had been standing on a pedestal in the middle of the room. The pot had been removed from the pedestal and placed by the window. An alarm was at once raised, and a neighbour came on the scene. In response to a demand for the reason of her presence, the intruder stated that she entered the house in order to get a “feed,” but protested that she had not taken possession of anything. At first she declared that she had knocked at the back door, but subsequently admitted that she had entered the house through the window of the sit-ting-room. The woman did not make any attempt to escape, but after making her explanation was allowed to go.

eight or nine each; Mr E. E. Taylor (Pahiatua) five, Mr J. G. Brechin (Mangamutu) jour, and Mr V, Redmond (Mangatainoka) three.
