CALL FOR A TRUCE.

Several Bishops and the heads of Nonconformist churches in England and Scotland have signed an ,appeal to the Premier and Sir Hamar Greenwood protesting against indiscriminate reprisals in Ireland, adding that they cannot regard the outrages which occasioned the reprisals policy as ordinary wanton criminality, but the outcome of a sense of political grievance, and they urge the Government to attempt to secure a truce and adopt a policy of conciliation.
HIBERNIAN RESOLUTION. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. The Hibernians Society’s annual Dominion Conference passed the following resolutions; (1) That in common with an overwhelming mass of Irish people of various faiths, with representatives of English Liberals, Unionist and Labourites, and prominent English journals, the Baptist Union of Great Britain and Ireland, and witn seventeen episcopal leaders of the Established Church of England, this New Zealand district meeting of the Hibernian Australasian Catholic Benefit Society, records its solemn protest against the regime of militarist oppression and crime which lias brought such bitter woo upon Ireland. (2) This meeting strongly affirms the just and inalienable right of the Irish people to control their own affairs. (3) That copies of these resolutions bo sent to the Prime Ministers of New Zealand and England, the Cardinal, Archbishop of Armagh, and President Harding of America.
