WATERSIDE HOLD-UP.
(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Last night. Trouble has arisen at Lyttelton in connection with the discharge of 5200 tons of superphosphates brought by the “Kiso Maru.” The cargo is iu bulk, the intention of the consignees being to bag most of the shipment on board and to discharge a small proportion in bulk- Discharging operations commenced on Tuesday afternoon and proceeded without trouble till 10 a.m. on Wednesday, when, owing to a heavy wind, bagging had to be resorted to. This morning the bulk handling was resumed, but later in the forenoon Lie men in the trucks gave notice that they would not continue at work unless the cargo was bagged down in the hold. A meeting of th local disputes committee was held. bui no agreement was arrived at. A tier luncheon the men in the trucks did not resume, but bagging went mi in the holds till 3 P-m., wlv n the m<m working there were put off. Thm matter lias been referred to the National Disputes Committee, the members o) which will arrive at Lyttelton from Wellington to-morrow. The men will be given an opportunity ot re-engag-ing to handle the superphosphates in bulk in the morning, pending th.' decision of the committee. The waterside rs are not asking for more money, only the bagging of all the cargo.
