SYDNEY RACES. COMPROMISE WINS STEEPLECHASE. [Aiist. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Thursday, 9.40 p.m.) SYDNEY, Last night. The Australian Jockey Club's Winter Meeting, "which was made specially attractive owing to the Prince's visit, commenced to-day. There was an attendance of 55,000. The Prince attended unofficially, but he was soon recognised and enthusiastically greeted. HURDLES. —Silent Way (11.2) 1, Sir Rep (9.0) 2, Breastwork (9.12) 3. The winner lay third until three furlongs from home, but finished strongly, winning by five lengths. Time, 3~.4 2 3. STEEPLES. —Compromise (11.S) 1, Algous (10.12) 2, Miss Rosslyn (12.0) 3. Half a mile from home, Miss Rosslyn took charge temporarily, but Compromise led over the last jump, and won by half a length. Time, 5.2 2. ROYAL ASCOT. (Received Thursday, 9.5 p.m.) LONDON, June 16. At the Ascot R.oyal Meeting, Donogohue rode Square Measure in the Hunt Cup, and won by three lengths. Ugly Duckling was not placed. The Fernhill Stakes, five furlongs, resulted" Tetratema (Carslake) 1, Galway Gate 2, Wild Honey 3. Won by sixlengths.
