HOCKEY.

WEDNESDAY'S GAMES. The matches in the men's Wednesday hockey competitions were played yesterday at the Sportsground. The ground was in decidedly better condition than on Saturday, and faster games resulted. Y.M.C.A. "B" had a surprise victory over Bannevirke. whom they defeated by 4 to 1. Doolan (2) and Gerrand (2) found the net for the home side, while Wainscott scored for the visitors. Mr Paton refereed. Campbell Street Old Boys beat R.S.A. by 3 to 2 after an exciting game. Croucher, Brown and Anderson shot goals for C.5.0.8., while A'Court and Tucker found the net for the soldiers. Mr Naismith refereed. Y.M.C.A. "A" defeated P. and T. after a ding-dong go, one of the best exhibitions of hockey seen locally this season. The score was 3—2, goals being scored by Inkpen (2) and Thorburn for Y.M., and by Crump and Minogue for P. and T.
