LIGHT AND POWER.
HERE IN FIFTEEN MONTHS.
The Mayor (Mr J. A. Nash, M.P.) told the Chamber of Commerce meetins last evening that at a special meeting- of the Borough Council yesterday it had been decided to let the contract for electric light and power in Palmerston North. The contract was being let to a reliable firm, but he could not give further information till the details had been adjusted. If everything went well, and there was no delay in securing the necessary machinery from England, in 15 months the electric light should be turned on in Palrnerston North. Mr J. M. Johnston: Well done; We'll have to give you another medal. The Mayor: Thanks! I have had so many from you. Mr Hodder moved that the Chamber congratulate the Mayor and Borough Council on the businesslike manner in which they had carried out the proposals for electric light and pfower. Mr Johnston: Not fr»- trams. Mr Spooner: That will come next. The Mayor: Yes, that will come next. The motion was carried unammously The motion was carried unanimously.
