Bv defeating New South Wales by 18 points to 10, before 00,000 spectators, the Englishmen proved conclusively that Saturday's failure did not truly reflect their skill. From the Uiclc-oft" the visitors played cautiously and strongly, fortifying the goal by resolute and deadly tackling, which effectively smothered all the efforts of New South Wales to break through. Visiting the New South Wales territory they threw the ball about cleverly, almost scoring on several occasions. They were soon rewarded, Gronow getting a goal from a penalty, and Hilton scoring a try, which Gronow converted, making the score —7-nil. Buoyed up by success, the Englishmen continued their invasions. Wagstaff, Thomas and the other backs treating the spectators to brilliant passing movements. Gronow kicked two more goals, one from a mark, and one from a uenalty, and prior to the interval D'raser got a goal for Now South Wales, after Bulge had failed in several attempts. The score was — 11.-2. In the second half both teams gave exhibitions of fine passing rushes, play travelling over every inch of the field with lightning rapidity. New South Wales gamely strove to overtake their opponents in a ding-dong battle, hut luck was against them at a critical moment. Reid scored a try, and Gronow two more bringing England's tallv to 1 8, while tries by Farnsworth and Robinson, and a goal by Norman had increased New South Wales score to 10, when the final whistle went.
