MUTTON PRICE FIRM. (Per Press Association ) CHRISTCHURCH, Bast Night. At the Addington Market there was a. big yarding of fat stock and an average one of stores. There was an improvement in the store sheep market, the mutton market being very firm, whilst an overflow yarding of fat beef met with much easier sale. Store sheep; Lambs 17/4 to 21/10, inferior 12/7 to 15/6, good 2-tooth lines in lamb 27/11 to 30/11, cull 2tooth °wes in lamb 15/5, good empty 2-tooth ewes to 27/1, low-conditioned ewes 24/10, sound 21/ to 27/, 4 and 6-tooth, ’wethers 26/4 to 29/9, 2 and 4-tooth wethers 24/6 to 27/11, 2tooth wethers 24/1 to 29/6. Fat lambs: A yarding of 2600 of indifferent quality, an average demand by freezing buyers occupying the bulk. Extra prime lambs to 38/, prime 27/6 to 32/1, medium 24/9 to 26/9, lighter 20/ to 24/6. Fat sheep: A big yarding, with many lines of very prime, both ewes and wethers. A firm tone was displayed throughout and freezing buyers secured about half the yarding, operating more freely than usual. Extra prime wethers 48/ to 60/, prime 39/ to 44/, medium 34/6 ro' 38/6, lighter 29/ to 34/1, extra prime ewes 45/ to 49/7, prime 38/ to 42/. medium 32/ to 27/1, lighter 25/ to 31/6. Fat. cattle: Penning being, much more than butchers’ requirements, and freezers not operating, there was a drop in prices, particularly for secondary stuff, which chiefly comprised an entry of extra prime steers fetching to £29, prime £l9 to £24 15/, medium £ls to £lB, lighter £8 15/ to £l4 12/6, prime heifers £l3 to £l6 12/6, ordinary £7 10/ to £l2 17/6, extra prime cows £lB 15/, prime £l2 15/ to £ls, ordinary £8 to £l2 1/. Dairy cattle: A good demand for decently conditioned cows and heifers close to profit. Springing heifers to £lB, second and third calvers (good) to £l7 10/, backward cows and heifers to £l2. Store cattle: A dragging sale, the lines being difficult to quit. Two-year and a-half steers to £6 15/, 2-year spring calvers to £7 2/6. forward cows to £8 6/. Pigs: Choppers to £D 10/, light baconers £6 15/, and heavy to £B. The average price per lb’ was lOd to 101 d; heavy porkers to £S 5/, average per lb 1/ to l/01d.
