HOCKEY.
Two hockey matches were played on the sportsground yesterday. The going was somewhat heavy after the rain, but good competition resulted, and though the wins were decisive in each case, the games were spiritedly contested.
Y.M.C.A. A beat R.S.A. by four goals to one. Thorburn (2), Aitcheson and Hansen scored for the winners, and Tucker for the Soldiers. Mr Patou refereed. Post Office were too good for Y.M.C.A. B by six goals to nil. Minogue (3), Hammer, Clapham and Basin found the net for the victors. Mr Naismith controlled the game.
In the hockey match played in Dannevirke. the Campbell .Street Old Boys defeated the Dannevirke team by four goals to one. The game was fairly even up to well on in the second spell, when the condition and. combination of the Palmerston North boys began to toll on the home team, who let three goals past them in ten. minutes.
