PRIZE FIGHT.
BASHAM V. KAY. 1 Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] LONDON, April 12._ There was a big crowd at the tional Sporting Club for the meeting of the welter-weight champions oi Australia and Great Britain, which aroused much interest in view oi Kay’s reputation as a clever and determined boxer. Kay’s stand with his right foot first puzzled Basham in the opening round, during which Basham also boxed with his right foot to the front, but later lie abandoned the idea and cleverly adapted his style to Kay’s. The Australian thereafter never looked like winning. Basham throughout forced the pace and was too quick for Kay, though the Australian made a creditable show'. Basham in the seventeenth round .staggered Kay with a couple of heavyrights to the point. Kay was palpably tiling in the eighteenth round, but managed to finish.
