CLAIM FOR LIBEL.
CASE OF SERGEANT OZANNE. [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] MELBOURN E, Yesterduy. An action has commenced in which Alfred Ozanne, formerly member for Corio in the House of Kepresentati\es, is claiming’ £SOOO damages for alleged libel from the newspaper “Geelong. Advertiser.” The plaintiff stated that action was taken as the result of three articles published during the 191T Federal Election campaign, which. he considered, caused his defeat. The defence stated that when the articles were published, Mr Hughes issued a message received from Sir William Birdwood embodying the report by Sir John Monash on the conduct of plaintiff, who was then a se! - grant in the A.I.F. The report stated that Ozanne was absent without leave, and was struck off the strength on the eve of going to France.
