LOVED AY LEADS FOR BELT. LINTON RIFLE CLUB SHOOTINGS WELL. (Per Press Association.) TRENTHAM, Saturday. Generally good "with exceptions," sums up the character of the shooting to-day, which was devoted to Belt matches. These have now reached the stage when the aggregates liecome interesting, as showing in what direction the 1920 champion may be sought. The figures will be worked out to-morrow. So far H. C. Loveday :;70, appears to hold the leadership. Work started before S o'clock in the Auckland Match at 300 and 500 yards. The weather was the same as the previous day, and the earliest men down met the same difficulties in the matter of shadowed target faces. Apart from this, conditions were good, and a light flicker of breeze from the left steadied as the sun drew in front of the targets and even the most captious rifllemen could hardly raise a growl, and high scoring was general.

i Alter lunch, however, a change came ' over the scene for a little while. The second stage, the (500 yards of the Wellington Match was then taken, and the breeze developed into strong puffs that upset even some of the big guns, who had come back with good scores from 500 yards. The later men to go down, however, had better luck, as the wind dropped and shooting liecame "in easy," at least. Those who got together good tallies declared it was easy; others thought differently and said so in no measured terms. IT. Povedav, Fryer, Caldwell, H. Harris and Duncan got on 49 at 500 yards. Poveday's was harder earned than a possible he got at the same distance in the afternoon, owing to the vagaries of light and wind. The Nelson Match, 10 shots at 800 yards, filled out the afternoon, in which as the prize-list shows, good scoring was general. The Senior Cadet Championship was fired during the afternoon and though the entries were not so large as had been hoped for, the competition evoked a good deal of interest It was held under Service conditions at 200 and 500 yards. Those cadets attending the big meeting, who all came from other districts, had the distinct advantage in having thenown rifles, and having been through the mill on Thursday with the men. The Wellington boys had to use the rack rifles issued on their arrival this afternoon, so obviously they could not expect to keep in the hunt with the visitors, though one managed to get fourth place. Two Hamilton lads tied for first place with 73 out of a possible 80 The results of the match, which was for £2 and a gold medal: Cadet P. Edgecumbe (Hamilton) 73 £1 Q M.S, J. R.
