KAIRANGA COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. ' The monthly meeting of the Kairanga County Counci] was held this morning. PresentCrs J. Linklatcr (chairman). M. Moodv, D. Coll is, D. G.: Craw, S. R. Lancaster j 1). Thomas, W. W. Wilsher, and P. J. Small. FINANCIAL. The statement of Bank balances as. at December 9 was a.s follows: —County fund account, cr. £1971 5s lOd; culvert loan account, or. £1244 17s 4d; motor lorry account. cr. £2288 8s 6d; Fitzherbert water rare loan (£735 to draw from the State Ad varices Office), er. £666 19s Id; F. W. Connell imprest account, cr. £96 5s 8d; total credit balance £6413 10s 9d. The total amount of rates paid during the last month amounted to £2352 11s. CORRESPONDENCE.
The State Advances Office wrote stating that the Council’s application for loans oi £3500 for each of the Rangitikei and Foxton lines, and £3OOO for the Napier road, making £IO,OOO in all for road improvements. was being entertained and the consent of the Govemor-GeAcral had been given. The Vigilance Committee of the Mangahao Hydro-electric Power League reported that the road formation to the head •works had been completed and the. metalling would be proceeded with as soon as possible. The electric powtr plant had been ordered but tho Vigilance Committee want the opinion that there \ya-s s-till too much delay through “red tape” and othoi causes, which must .be eliminated.—The re port was adopted and the work of the committee eulogised. | The Palmerston North Hlorough Council wrote asking if the Council was prepared to meet the Borokigh Council to consider the advisability of j the two councils sitting up a combined committee to undertake the Control of the supply and distribution of electricity within the boundaries of the Borough* Council.—lt was decided that the clerk write to the Palmerston North Borough Council to the effect that the Kairanga County Council was agreeable to the holding of the conference .-to be held at a future date to be fixed by the Borough Council The Foxton Borough Council wrote for information on tho subject of tar-sealed and concrete roads and also the estimated cost of laying a mile of street, one chain wide, with either material. GENERAL. Permission was granted to the engineer to attend the annual meeting of civil engineers to bo hold in Dunedin in February. It was decided to extend the culvert on the corner of Gillespie’s lino* and Boundary road as far as possible. i. Accounts amounting to £1729 5s 2d were passed for payment. In connection with the dangerous position of a number of telegraph jpoles, it Was resolved that tho clflvirman arid engineer wait on the Postmaster and urge their removal. It was decided to observe tho usual Christmas holidays. FITZHERBERT WATER WORKS. The engineer of the Fitzherbert water works (Mr R. Edwards) reported that the laying of all the cast-iron service mains would be completed during the week, making a total length of- three miles and sixty chains. There now remained 5 miles and 54' chains of small pipes yet.to bo laid.
