VALEDICTORY.

ME. T. H. HODGSON. i At last night’s meeting of the householders of the Campbell Street School district, Mr 11. Hodgson, who has been secretary of the committee for last seven years and who is leaving for Whangarei, was presented by the chairman, Mr A. J. Mahon, with a goldmounted fountain pen, in recognition of his great services. Mr Mahon said that it was with the deepest regret that tho committee had to part with its secretary. He doubted if a better secretary to a school committee existed in New Zealand. To Mr Hodgson the credit of having established the school baths was mainly due. He moved that tho meeting put on record Mr Hodgson’s great services to the school, expressing dhe hope that he would be happy and prosperous in his new home. The motion was carried by acclamation. It was also decided to erect a plate in the baths putting on record Mr Hodgson’s services.

Mr Hodgson returned thanks for tho valuable gift and said that anything ho had done for the school had been a pleasure. He had been attracted to the school by its tone and its management. Ho did not deserve all the credit for the baths. Groat credit was due to Mr C. Warden, to the Old Boys’ Association and to householders who had contributed so liberally. He had been amply repaid for his own efforts by seeing the enjoyment the children obtained in the baths, and in seeing the school win. the swimming championship three years running. He wished the committee and staff and the children all success in the future, particularly in regard to obtaining a new school.
