SATURDAY CLOSING.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —The public arc anxious to know the real opinion of the retailers, who would be effected, if the shops in Palmerston North wore closed on Saturday afternoon. In one of your locals on Monday morning you mentioned that 87 retail shopkeepers arc in favour of the change. I understand all the retailers, who would be effected have been personally called on, and only 21 voted for the change. Where does the disdiscrepancy conic inf Are they shopkeepers who are not affected by the proposal, or shopkeepers who do a wholesale business, and always close on Saturday? This is what the public want to know. Why don't the Saturday committee publish the names of the 87 firms who want this change.—l. am, etc., L. MARTIN.
[Over SO retailers have signed for Saturday. Their names will, be announced at the meeting to-night at Everybody's Theatre. —Ed. I< M.I). 1- 1
