THE WEST FRONT.
Flanders a Quagmire.
ENEMY ANXIOUS ABOUT SUP-
PLIES.
[Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Thursday, 11.50 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 16.
The United Press correspondent on the west front says: A warm wind has transformed Flanders into a quagmire.
Captured documents show that troops from the east are arriving. Meanwhile the enemy is conserving his ammunition sind other material wherever possible. An order to Prince Rupprecht’s army group blames the commanders for wastage in the recent fighting. It declares that some field gun batteries fired 3450 rounds in one day, light field howitzers 3100 rounds, and heavy field howitzers 1600 rounds. This, it declares, is too much, and creates an acute shortage. It also wears out the guns, hence there is an unusual percentage out of commission. The order demands the most careful conservation of material throughout. ENEMY RAIDS A POST. (■Received Friday, 12.35 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 17. Sir Dpuglas Haig reports: The enemy raided a post north-west of St. Quentin.
