Tension on German Line.
(Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.) NEW YORK, Oct. 27. Advices from London state that the Allies operations in France are seriously adding to the length of front the Germans have to defend with fastwaning reserves. Every wedge driven in the German line, like those at Thiepval and Douaumont, makes the front zigzag instead of straight, thus increasing the mileage of trenches for which the Germans must have additional men and gums, or they must retreat. It is estimated that fifty miles can be added to the German front in this manner, which will require 300,000 troops to defend.
