Verdun a Rest Camp.
GERMANS CAUGHT NAPPING.
(Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received Sunday, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 28. Ashmead Bartlett who was an eyewitness at Verdun says: "Since the Battle of the Somme opened the Germans at, Verdun havo been putting up a gigantic bluff. Divisions are constantly withdrawn and changed and Verdun has become a rest camp for divisions scattered on the Somme. A third to half the guns were withdrawn. Finally Joffre decid to call the enemy's hand." '< (.Aust. ana N.Z. Cable (Received Sunday. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 27. A French communique says:— The enemy after a continuous and violent bombardment of tho first lines at Haudramont and Douaumont Fort and the Damloup battery, attemntod to attack westward of Douaumont village. He, was instantaneously stopped by our curtain of fire.
