PATRIOTIC FUND
A meeting was held in the Mayor's room yesterday afternoon for the purpose of arranging for the sale of tickets for the performance of Palmerston Operatic Society in aid of the Patriotic Fund. The Mayor explained that the proceeds of the performance, after all expenses were paid were to be handed over to the Patriotic Fund. He mentioned that. in Masterton they had splendid results from the production of the "Country Girl." The time was now opportune to raise the money because they might be called later on to raise money for those in distress. Individually the members of the Society had been working very hard to ensure the success of the entertainment, and the production would be as near perfect as it was possible to make it. He hoped that the doors of the Opera House would be packed every night. The Secretary reported that it was proposed to sell four shillings and half-c-own tickets available fqr any night of the performance, and that the public had the right to reserve the four shillings seats. All the ladies present agreed to do their best to push the sale while a large number of tickets will also be distributed amongst the members of the Society. Those who desire to participate in the sale can obtain tickets from the Secretary, Mr Baker, or from Mr Collingwood. The box plan opens on October 21.
