Press Association—By Telegraph. WELLINGTON, Oct. 12. Following is Eev. D. C. Bates' wea* ther summary for past 24 hours:— A, westerly storm area passed in the South on Saturday. Heavy westerly; gales prevailed in Cook Strait and over the South Island, changing to> south-westerly in many parts. Con* siderable rain has fallen in all west* ern districts and also in the southern portion of South Island. The winds decreased generally on Sunday, but gales have been reported at various stations again to-day, for another st.rm centre is now developing in the South.
Forecast. —Present indications art for high westerly winds, changing to south-westerly everywhere shortly; squally and changeable weather witk heavy showers in most parts of the country, and colder conditions following. The barometer should soon rise everywhere.
