EXETER RAILWAY DISASTER
DRIVER IRWIN CHARGED WITH MANSLAUGHTER.

The jury's verdict was that the accident was caused by Driver Irwin overrunning the home signal at danger, and added a rider that the loop lines should be lengthened to accommodate any train, or that a refuge siding be made at either end. More precaution is necessary in foggy weather. Irwin was committed for trial on a charge of manslaughter. He was allowed bail of £2OO.
