SPIRITS OF THE DEAD.
STRIKING REFOKM SPEEUH BY LADY GLEJN CONNEJtt.
London, August 8. La'iy Glenconner, sister of the late Mr George Wyd'arn, speaking yesterday at a Liberal fete near Salisbury, contrasted the state of tnings in England when men were huns: iu Salisbury Market for sheep stealing because they were starving, with t e tendency t -day under a Liberal administraton towards higher wages, cheaper fcod, and attention to the housing problem. » "Believe me," she sai , "there are great spirits looking on—Tolstoi, Kuskin, Gobbett, Kett, and mauy others who have all bwen on the side of the poor." Referring to Mr Lloyd George's coming campaign for helping the rural labourer, La >y Glenconner observed that she believed that the problem, difficult though it might be, was in good hands, for she believed that more was accomplished by the inspired minds of men ardent for progress than was achieved by a frigid mechanism that was only too prone to safeguard the luxuries of the rich.
