COMIC OPERA COMPANY'S' TOUR. Sydney, September 13. Eight chorus girls lately attached to the Royal Comic Opera Comp >ny, now tearing New Zealand, have been left disconsolate in Melbonrne T< e day before tne company left 011 tour the la ies came down to t e footlights during a rehearsal and stated that t ey most positively bave £3 5a a week in the small towns of New Zealand, for so high was the cost of living in these out-of-the-way places that with £3 (the log rate) they must certainly die of starvation.
All this, and much more to the same purpose was, as a writer in one of the Melbourne papers pats it, delivered fortissimo, ani ' with all the charm and suasive power t< at toe ladies cculd bring to bear. But the management Was ungallant enough to say that t is was a mere try-on, in view of the fact that the present log will soon terminate. If they were to yield it w nil be a goo» argument for increased rates in the new log. The «irls >Jelinitely refuse i to tour nnder the log rates, feeling sure that their services could not be dispensed with, and now t' ey flnl t at their places have been taken by eight other members of t e Choristers' Union, wh i are prepare"* to ri k starving in the "smalls" of New Zealand on £3 a week.
