A NEW DRUG.
AMERICAN'S DEATH FBOM DELAYED ARSENICAL POl SONING. London, Aug '.st 9. The effects of a new drng named salvasin were described yesterday at an inquest at Westminster on John Rogers Vmon Gilliatt, an American, who had been staying in apartments at Eaton Terrace, Eaton Sqnare, S. W. Mr Cyril Nitch, consulting surgeon, of Harley street, said deceased consulted him last November saying he had been suffering for 24 years from a disease aud had been treate 1 mostly on the O ntinent. Wituess examine 1 him to see if he was a saitable subject for an injection of salvasin. Finding that he was, witness had him admitted to a nursing home, and injected six grains of the ding, t' ree grains short of a foil cose. Deceased seemed to benefit greatly. On July 29 witness made a similar injection. He again appeare • to benefit, but on Saturday he became ill and died, The case, said witness, was a cnrions one, as thera were no Rymptoms of arsenial poisoning for practically three days alter the injection. T..-e drug, which was a comparatively new one contained arsenic The injection administered by witness contaied only two grains of arsenic. Dr, Trevor, pathologist to St. George's Hospital, stated that death was due to neart failure, while t e deceased was suffering from general poisoning of the blood. Toe condition was compatible with arsenical poisoning A verdict of 'Veath by misadventure" was returned.
