Sir Joseph Ward was a visitor to* Palmerston on Saturday He stayed for a few hours in the town while on his way to Hawke's Bay. Mr and Mrs J. Osgood, Roy street, have the sincere sympathy of their many friends in the death of their infant son.

Sir William Russell, who hag not been well for some days, is reported seriously ill, tays a press wire from Wellington.

Mr Leonard Stowe, Clerk of Parliament, who underwent an operation a few days ag •, was on Saturday, making a good recovery.

On Friday evening Mr S.Cameron., who has been twenty-five years in Feilding aciiag as auctioneer, was entertained on ihe eve of his departure by local auctioneers and land agents. Mr G. Elliot oresided and referred to Mr Cameron's excellent sportsmanlikeactions atd his many good qualities. He presented him, on behalf of his many friends, with a purse of sovereigns. Mr N. Gorton also made some suitable remarks, and the gathering closed with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.

Mr and Mrs Albert E. Sainsbury were the lecipients of an interesting presentation at St Peter's Church, Terrace i. nd, on Fi id*y evening. The gift, cors'stiug of a handsome silver hot water jug, was presented by the Rev. Mr Groove, who on behalf of the church committee and the Ladiex Guild, referred to the recipients' app oaching departure for England, and lo their valued assistance in the choir, the Guild and other branches of the Church's activities. Mr H. S. Porteous also voiced the < steem in which the departing members were held. Mr Sainsbury briefly acknowledged the gift and good wishes.

We regret to have to announce thedeath, which oc urred yesterday, of Mrs. Margaret Buchanan, wife of Mr James C Buchanan, Borough Inspector of Palmer*ton. Deceased had not been ailing for long, but three days ago waa admitted to the hospital, where she BuC3umbe(i. Deceased, who wa? sixty years of age. landed in Wellington in 1885, atd was living there for 18 years., and for the last ten years in Palmerston.. Besi-Jes the bereaved hust and. two sons aid eix daughters are left. They are Messrs A. D. and P. N. Buchanan, both of Sj dney, and Mrs D. Roberts (Brisbane), Mrs V. Archer (Palmerston), Mrs J. Muck (Hastings), Mrs J. Hid (London), and Misses E. and N.Buchanan of Palmerston. Mr Buchanan and his family will have the deep sympathy of many Palmerston residents.
