CLEVER HOSPITAL NURSES. PRAISE FOR THE BOARD. Yesterday the Matron of the Palmerston Hospital reported to the Board that six nurses presented themselves for the State examination on December 4 last, and all of them passed. One of them, Nurse Shere, ca-tie top of the list for ail New Zealand in her final examinatoin. All the others took good position on the list. The full list is as follows Mabel Shere Mary Oarmichael Isabel G. B. Sanders Edith M. O'Loughlin Ingeborg M. K. Maegaard Jane E. Brown
Miss Shere is a daughter of Mr Shere, a farmer of Fitzherbert, formerly of Bunnythorpe. | The Chairman, Mr J. G. Wilson, said the Hospital staff deserved to be much congratulated on the success. For six nurses to go up and all to pass was very satisfactory. He believed once before Palmerston had a girl on the top of the list (Nurse Page.) " The Secretary (Mr Stubbs): That was for phyisology and anatomy. This is even better, being for the full final. The Chairman said he thought the Board ought to record its satisfaction on the minutes, and he would move that the medical and nursing staffs be informed accordingly. Other members concurred, and the motion was carried. The Matron reported that Nurse Carmichael was unfortunately obliged to give up nursing for a time and was resigning. She recommended that the other five should be promised positions as staff nurses wit'h the usual increases of salary, £4O. This was approved. The examintion of the Palmerston nurses which produced these results was conducted by the late Dr. Wilson. It was one of his last acts in connection with the hospital. Nurse Shere, who topped the list, began her nursing career at North - cote Private Hospital in Grey Street under the proprietress, Miss Roby.
