BIG INCREASE. Press Aeen—By Telegraph—Copyright Loudon, Yesterday. Five hundred and forty-two merchantmen with a tonnage of 1,970,065 were being built in the United Kingdom on December 31, as compared with 463 vessels with a tonnage of 1,368,671 throughout the rest of the -world. There is a great shortage of skilled labour in the northern shipyards, -causing a refusal of some orders.
