THE GOVERNOR ELECT.

AT PALMERSTON TO-DAY. His Excellency the Governor-Elect and Lady Liverpool will reach Palniorston station this morning earlier than was yesterday expected. The Major, Mr J. A. Nash, received last evening the following telegram from the Prime Minister, Mr W. F. Massey, from Auckland: — "The special train with Lord Liverpool 011 board, will arrive at Palmerston at seven minutes past nine o'clock 011 Thursday morning (to-day), and remain for ten minutes.''

The Mayor and members of the Council will meet the GovernorElect on the railway platform, but there will be no speeches. It is anticipated that numbers of the townspeople will also visit the station for the first glimpse of the new Governor ard Lady Liverpool. ARRIVAL AT AUCKLAND. They were received by the Administrator (Sir Robert Stout), the Hon. W. F. Massey, and other Ministers, and were cheered on landing, and then driven to Government House. They will be entertained at a civic luncheon this afternoon and leave for Wellington at 0 o'clock this evening. The Governor created a good impression, and was very popular on the steamer, participating in games and other amusements. DOINGS AT AUCKLAND. UNOFFICIAL LUNCHE( >N. Auckland, Last Night. Lord Liverpool, who arrived by the Malwa this morning, was entertained at an unofficial luncheon this afternoon by the Mayor and City Councillors. There was a large attendance, including several members of Parliament. Speeches of welcome were made by the Mayor and the Prime Minister, and Lord Liverpool made a happy speech in reply. Lord and Lady Liverpool left for Wellington in "company with the Prime Minister by a special <u" this evening at 6.15 p.m. He will reach Wellington about mid-day to-morrow.

LADY LIVERPOOL'S HOBBIES LIKES COUNTRY LIFE BEST. Sydney, December 14. Lady Liverpool had a little chat with a representative of the Sydney Daily Telegraph, and after saying some nice things about Sydney Harbour. proceeded; "The flowers in Australia are lovely and plentiful. 1 am especially taken with the beauty of the carnations. Of course when we left England in November there were very few flowers, and it is delightful to come to a land teeming with them. Adelaide greatly impressed me, it is such a well laid out city, and I did enjoy driving round. " Melbourne is also a very fine citv.

"Have I any hobbies? Yes. I am fond of hunting, riding and games. I love animals of every kind—horses, dogs and cats. Country life appeals most to me, tlvough I also like the gaieties of the city. " "You appear to have a wonderful vivacity, which is supposed to he a characteristic of Australian women. Lady Liverpool?" "Perhaps that is because I am an Irishwoman. I come from Counrv Wick low, a few miles from Dublin. I am sure I shall like New Zealand, and hope to see more of Sydney at some future date."
