BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING,
The ordinary meeting of the Borough Council was held last night. - Present: The Mayor (Or J. A. Nash), aud Ors Haydou, Armstrong, Stubbs, Hewitt, Palmer, Clausen aud Mowlem. CORRESPONDENCE was dealt with from— G. Hunt, offering tar-spraying machine.-Referred to Public Works Committee. P. T. Fair, complaiuiug that drain was not cleaned out in Boundary road.-No action taken.
Golf Club, thanking the Council for curryiug out protection works.Received.
Justioe Department, stating that the matter of gaol accommodation iu Palmerstou was already engaging the attention of tho Department,Received,
H. J. Canton, asking to have i»u overhanging willow tree cut down, and the Kawau drain attended to.luspector of Nuisanoes to be instructed to see to the tree; other request referred to the Public Works Committee.
J. P. lunes, askiug Council's consent to a sub-leaso.-Agreed to. Public Trustee, saying that the question of. Native reserves waß receiving attention.—Received.
Seoretary Benefit Committee, ask mg for free use of Opera House, ENGINEER'S REPORT.
Thoßojongh Engiueor (Mr Jickell) reported as follows :-I propose calling tenders for the kerbing and formation of footways around the outer enclosures in the Squaro; and also for the grading of the sides of Ohuroh Street East from Prinoess Street to East Street, these tenders being returnable at your next meeting. During the past week the old ISanch water main near the new bridge and tin wbare has been removed from the bed of the stream, and. the new 15-inoh main has been laid over the bridge in place thereof. Additional overflow area at the reservoir on Pratt's Hill is now being provided, and when this.is done, the last of the necessary 'connections with the uew 15-inoh main will be completed. On Tuesday, the 7th inst., the level of the wator at the upstream faoe of the dam was Sin below the overflow lip. The work of river bank protection near Pitzroy Street, by means of anchored trees, has been ooramenced, aud is proceeding satisfactorily.
