HEAVY TRAFEIO.
RESOURCES OP DEPARTMENT TAXED. (Press Association), Wellington, Last Night.T. Though the North Island Main Trunk line has barely been put into operation, business is developing at a rate bo rapid that the Railway Department's resources in rolling stook are being taxed to the utmost, Speoial arrangements have had to be made to oonoentrate all available waggons in the north, A big trafflo in coal from Waikato to southern towns even as far away as Wanganui has sprung up and to oope with it twenty-flve new, wagons have just been Bent ,'from the Hillside Workshops, Dunedin. Another consignment of twenty-flve is paoked ready for shipment and fifty more will soon be despatched to the busy Waikato. The Hon. J. A. Millar who gave this information said the timber trade was also developing but at a slower rate. A number of mills were starting in the Main Trunk Country. In passenger trafflo the through line seemed to have already diverted most of the business from the West Coast steamers. It was his, opinion that the Main Trunk line would imraediately demonstrate itself a profitable investment to the Dominion.
