A meeting of orcditors in the estate of Wm. Munro Whishaw, of Feilding, who han been deolared bankrupt, will be held at the K'eilding Court House on Tuesday next. Mr A. J. Graham, the looal representative of Trinity College, with whom entries for the June exams closed yesterday received four for the senior, three intermediate, II junior and 23 preparatory-a very satisfactory total of 40 entries. Good entries are now assured for the Manawatn Boxincr Association's gathering. The Porter Brothers, Mnndy, Oolet and Ellis have all signified their intention of taking part, Hill, Maitland, and Havill are all assured and there are fonr novices already entered. It is a great pity that the water supply (or gather the ridiculous seven inoli pipe section) is not equal to bringing more, water to town fast now. Gardens everywhere are suffering. The Square garden lawns are beginning to look brown. The display of asters in the statue seotion of the Square is still magniiioent and a themn of general admiration by visitors

The Horticultural Show held yesteiday at Woodville was a great suooess in every way.. There were magnificent displays of out flowers, fanov work and vegetables. The exhibition of fruit was good, but the ontries were not as numerous as in previous years, The displays of Messrß J. A. Nioholas, W. F. Doney and H. Hawken were the great foature of the show. Mr Nioholas won the championship gold medal for most points in all classes with 81 points. To-day and to-morrow are absolutely the last two days of the gift prices now ruling for balance of summer goods at The Bon Marohe, New Autumn and Winter goods to be shown on Thursday. A Hawera Star reporter has been anthoritativelv informed that the passenger traffio in Taranaki, in spite of the Main Trunk liue, is koeping np fairly well, while the goods traffio is as busy as ever. At the Foxton Police Oomt recently an application for a prohibition order, lodged by a barman against an inebriate, was granted.

Yesterday afternoon Deteotive Quirke arrested W. Joyce, a stranger to Palmerston, for committing a grossly indecent act in the Square. Joyce will appear before the court tliis morning. Mr P. Hilton, of the Paikakariki Hotel, was a well-known pug fanoier and breeder. Two valuable pugs were burned with the hotel yestorday, a pup belonging to the proprietor, and a slut, the property of Mr J. White, of Palmerston.

Edward Thos. Grulley was arrested by the Martoh police yesterday for the .theft of a suit of olotlies from a Palmerston boardinghoase. Acoused will answer to the oharge at the court this morning. The Marton water supply is now exhausted and unless rain comes very shortly the position will be very serious. The reservoir is quite empty and residents have to depend on their tanfcs for general purposes. In most oases this source of supply will only last a week. Arrangements are now being,made with the Railway Department to get water from Kakariki but it is not yet certain whether the Department oan meet with the demaud, The Oounoil proposes to supply residents free of oharge. The shortage has greatly inconvenienced the railway authorities, as the supply at Marton Junotii.n was obtained from the Marton reservoir. The in- 1 creased railway traffio lias made matters more serious. Water is now being carted by speoial train from Kakariki.

A splendid view of Jupiter and its four moons is obtainable jnst now through the Philosophical Society's telescope whioh Oapt. Hewitt, R.N., so generously aud. interestingly oversees. Oapt. Hewitt mentions that some of the huge American observatory telescopes have revealed a fifth moon. He regards Jupiter as the planet having greatest inflnence on the earth from its immense velocity, contiguity aod size. There was a haze last night viewed through the telescope, but the moon showed with surprising clearness notwithstanding, the great mountains and craters being very distinctly visiblo. It is almost literally true that astronomers know more now of the configuration of the side of the moon turned towards us than We know of the configuration of the surfaoe of the earth. The great Liok Observatory telesoope would reveal any building of the size of St. Paul's in thp moon. The annual United Fire Brigades' demonstration oommences at Auckland on Wednesday noxt. Yesterday a considerable number of firemen and dolegates went through, inolud* ing Mr J, G. Gilbert, from Napier, The Palmerston teams from the Fire Brigade and Salvage Corps will leave by mail train on Saturday afternoon. The Fiie Brigade team will be—Foreman Milvertou and Firemen Pettitt, R. Rush, p. Bntler and W. Voss. Emergenoy, M. Dredge. Foreman 0. S. Rush will also go as the Palmerston delegate to the conference. The Salvage Corp team will oonsist of A, Rodgers and W. Hancook, with a. Paltridge as emergenoy. Lieut. Wizoniski will aooompany the team. Oapt. Trail will 'be the Salvage Oorp's delegate to the. conferenoe. The demonstration will extend over three days 10th, 11th, ,and 13th of Maroh, and the conference will be held on the 12th.
