DUNEDIN FIRE BRIGADE.

The Dunedin Fire Brigade has just received from England a petrol motor chemical fire engine, which has been constructed by Messrs Merryweather and Sons, of London. This machine can tiavel at the rate of 25 to 30 miles an hour on the level, and will always be ready for immediate turn-out. It has two chemical cylinders, each holdings 35 gallons of fire-extinguishing fluid, and by re-oharging these alternately a continuous stream at high pressure can be maintained. A hydraulic reel carries 300 / feet of rubber nose for use with the chemical cylinders, and a large reel is fitted to take 1000 feet of canvas hose for use with fire engines or strep t hydrants. The apparatus also canies fire escape ladders, and should prove a valuable "first aid" machine. Two similar machines by the same makers, are in servico at Wellington, where they have proved of great value in checking small outbreaks of fire.
