Mr H. D. Bell, K.C., with him Mr Martin, solicitor 10 the Municipal Association, will act for the Peilding Borough Council in the case Feilding Council versus Feilding Gas Company. The company's defence has been filed, and the case will commence at the Wellington Supreme Court —where it will end is not yet known. The mechanical filters ordered from England by the Feilding Bolough Council for use in connection with the town's water supply, will b© shipped to New Zealand some time next month, and should reach here about April. The Manchester Rifles paraded for Government inspection last evening. There was a fair muster, Captain Barltrop being in command. SergtMajor Peacock was present for the purpose of instruction, and imparted some useful information. The officers and men who attended the daylight parade on December 14th "were paid the capitation money earned by them on that occasion. The ceremony will take place in Feilding on Tuesday next, and will i; be- a very quiet one. The happy oonple will leave on Friday, the 7th > February on a six or seven weeks' * v visit to Australia. r The cycle road race arranged between W. Wiggins, of Mr Geo. Garrett's staff, and W Woodhead, of rHalcombe, takes place on Wednesday, the 12th February, and will be from Wanganui to Feilding. The parties leave the former town at 2 7, p.m., Woodhead having five minutes' f start. The prize is a bicycle pre- * sented by Mr Geo. Garrett, of Feild- - ing.

Mr In wood, who is at present visiting this country as the representative of the Wesleyan bodies of England and Ireland at the special conventions being held in different parts of the Dominion, passed through Feilding by yesterday's mail train from Wanganui, where he attended the convention which closed on Tuesday last, on his way to Dune~din where another important meeting takes place. Mr James Ritchie, the new'ly-ap-pointed District High School assistant has arrived at Feilding and was last night appointed secretary pro tem. to tho Technical [School Committee.

Mr Lethbridge, M.P., presented the prizes to the pupils of the District High School yesterday afternoon. Mr Braik, chiaf inspector to the Board was also present and addressed the children.

The gentleman whom the Education Board is endeavouring to get as director of the Feiiding Technical School has verv high qualifications and should the Board succeed in obtaining his services there is a probability that the teachers' cla,ss now being held at Marton and Palmerston will be held in future at Feilding.
