A SAD FATALITY.
a distressing occurrence, ending in the death of a girl named Lucy Goldfinch, happened on Monday night. The girl, along with a companion was going home from school. When passing along Ohurch street they were asked by a man on horseback if they would like a ride. They refused and he rode along Princess street towards Main street. There he picked up four children. Lucy Goldfinch and Alice Stubbs came up at this juncture, and were again offered a ride, whioh they accepted. The horse, through some cause unknown, took fright and bolted. The two girls were thrown off at the corner of Princess and Church streets. The girl Goldfinch fell on her head and fractured her 6kull. She was picked up unconscious by two ladies and carired into a house near by. Dr Putnam was immediately called and ordered her removal to her home in Main street. The girl remained unconscious throughout the night, but rallied next day, and was conscious all day on Tnesday. A relapse occurred, however, and she died yesterday morning. Deceased was the daughter of Mrs 1 A. Goldfinch, of Main street. The girl Stubbs, fortunately, escaped with no worse injury than a sprained wrist. • • An inquest will be held to-day.
