BOROUGH COUNCIL
At the meeting of the Borough Council last evening there were present—the Mayor (Cr. Essex), Crs. Holben, Bennett, Clausen, Nash, Haydon, Stubbs, Armstrong, Luxford and Mathieson.
REPORTS. The engineer reported good progress with the laying of the sewers and the Eawau improvements and road metalling. Pile driving in connection with groin construction at the river would commence shortly. The Town Clerk was authorised to call for tenders for the supply of dog collars. He reported that £7000 had been received on account of the Public Works Loan and £1500 on account of the Hokowliitu protection loan. GENERAL. The following resolutions were carried on the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Nash.
That a wire fence be erected at the river bank across Fitzroy street. That the engineer advise as to the desirability of purchasing a pile driving plant to complete protective works before next winter.
That the tenders for the stopbauk at the south end of Esplanade near the ojd racecuorse be called for.
That the Council erect a second stopbank at Hokowhitu from the N.E. boundary of the education reserve to a suitable point south of Rushing street.
That Mr Robinson, Government engineer, be asked to fulfil his promise to further advise upon the best mode of protecting the banks of the Manawatu within the borough boundary.
That tenders be called for the erection of fencing along the banks of Kawau in Hocking's contract.
