HOCKEY.

Otago v. Manawatu. To-day the Otago representative hookey team will arrive in Palmerston and on Wednesday they will play the Manawatu representative team on the Showground, commencing at 3 o'clock. The popularity of hockey as a winter game is rapidly increasing in New Zealand, as is evidenced by the large number of representative teams travelling this year and the fact that at Auckland on Saturday the match between Otago and Auckland was witnessed by 1200 spectators. Those who are present on Wednesday may be sure of a fast open game. The teams are as follows: — Otago—Goal. White; full-backs, Johnston, Byburn; halves, Thompson, Goodman, Moore; forwards, Calder, Shaw, Begg, Gower, Rutherford. Manawatu—Goal, F. Tucker; full-backs, J. Walkley, C. Adams; halves, H. McGregor, H. Sorenson, D. Simmonds; forwards, B. Webb, W. Crooke, W. Crump, H. Collinson, K. Tait.
